A. Just about any type of hardbait or plug can be customized! Crankbaits, topwater plugs, spoons, spinnerbaits (heads and blades), and lipless crankbaits can all be effectively modified and customized for maximum fishing performance. Q. What colors work best? A. I recommend our starter kit for most situations. It has a full sheet of Black (for visibility and contrast), and half sheet of Red (to evoke a predatory response), and a half sheet of Fluorescent Chartreuse (for visibility in stained or muddy water, and for reaction strikes). My next choice would be our Flash Kit for bright clear lighting conditions in clear to stained water. It contains a full sheet of Black (for contrast), and half sheet of Red (for eyes, gills, throat or to give the appearance of blood for a predatory response), and a half sheet of silver metallic and a half sheet of Holographic prismatic (which resemble the silvery scales of many baitfish and elicit a feeding response in bass and other predators). A full range of "Basic" colors is available in our Deluxe Kits. For ideas on how to use the different colors available in Lucky Loper's Lure Customizing kits see my Tips and Tricks page. Shapes are precut; just peel them off the backing, stick them on the lure, and press firmly into place. There is no right or wrong way to do it. Try a few things. You'll quickly see the results in more fish caught. Then if you like the results your getting you can continue to fish the customized lure as is, (custom shapes will adhere for extended periods of trouble free fishing). Then, if you like, make more adjustments or make the change more permanent by spraying a clear coat on the lure such as Krylon Triple Thick Glaze when you get back home. You'll catch more fish and have more fun doing it! For ideas on how to use the different colors available in Lucky Loper's Lure Customizing kits see my Tips and Tricks page. Q. I've tried and I'm still not catching any fish. What am I doing wrong? A. Fishing is a sport where the angler needs every advantage he can get. Being able to control the color and shape ("profile") that the fish sees is a tremendous advantage. You may not always catch fish but learning and being aware of different factors and conditions that affect the fish's environment and his mood will definitely help your odds. Think about all the factors you don't have control over; weather, water clarity and color, water temperature, lighting conditions etc. So adding something to the list of things you can control such as color or shape presented to the fish in a particular fishing situation, that gives you a decided edge. Just keep trying different things, that's why they call it "fishing and not catching". Q. Does color really make that much difference to a bass? A. Bass use their sense of sight as their primary means of predation. So color is very important to the fish being able to identify and target it's prey. The more you can make your lure resemble something that might be on his menu the more likely a bass is to find and strike the lure. Q. How do we know that bass can see colors? A. It has been demonstrated in University experiments that fish can indeed distinguish different colors. We do not know if fish see color in exactly the same way as humans do. However, by controlled experimental conditioning, bass can learn to respond to a wide range of colors in a specific and predictable manner. Q. How can I keep from hooking myself when I'm applying the shapes? A. There are several safety precautions you can take when customizing your lures. Hold Crankbaits in one hand by the clear plastic bill on the front of the lure away from the treble hooks. Hold topwater plugs with needle nose pliers by the hook hanger (the metal loop that holds the treble hook on the belly of the lure). Or cover the treble hooks with "hook bonnets" while doing the customizing (these are soft plastic hoods that cover the hook and are available at your local outdoor specialty store). Here's a tip that will make your fishing day more enjoyable: It's a good idea to keep the hook bonnets on your lures in your tackle box while they are not being used to keep the hooks sharp and keep them from getting entangled with other lures. And an extra tip: It also really helps to use them when tying the lure onto your fishing line. Thanks for visiting! To order Lucky Loper's Lure Customizing Kits Click here |
